Deaf Awareness Training for Guiseley Juniors Football Club

Last month Reflect BSL provided Deaf Awareness training to a group of coaches from the Guiseley Juniors Football Club. The aim of the course was to promote improved communication within the teams, including better engagement between players and inclusion for Deaf children. This included sharing information on communication tactics, difficulties for Deaf players, greater awareness of the sport from a Deaf child’s perspective and strategies on how to improve communication as a whole.

It was a productive evening, and we had a great discussion with the coaches in attendance. We provided additional resources, such as the National Deaf Children’s Society – British Sign Language in Football page, and links to YouTube clips which show football related vocabulary to use within the team.

AETC provided the facilities for the training.
