Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language (BSL) (accredited by Signature)
The Level 2 Certificate is the next stage of development for learners who have completed their Level 1 Award. This qualification is designed to enable learners to develop an ability to communicate with Deaf people by using BSL in a range of familiar contexts such as family, social or work. Learners will learn to communicate with Deaf people using BSL in longer, more meaningful, and open-ended exchanges than at Level 1.
There are four themes in the Level 2 Certificate, with all learners studying ‘Everyday Conversation’. Learners can then choose to study two topics from ‘eating and drinking’, ‘shopping and spending’, and ‘travel and holidays’.
This course is assessed by a combination of a multiple choice exam paper, a presentation, and a conversation in BSL. Learners who complete the Level 2 Certificate are ideally placed to develop their skills with the Signature Level 3 NVQ Certificate in BSL. This course will be of interest to those looking to progress onto certain careers and roles such as a Sign Language Interpreter (BSL/English), Communication Support Worker, Teacher of the Deaf and other jobs working with Deaf People.
