Speech to Text Reporters

A Speech-to-Text Reporter (STTR) or Palantypist/Stenographer is another type of professional involved in taking notes in a very accurate and fast-paced way. A special keyboard is used, which differs from a normal computer, and records words as they are said (verbatim). For this reason they are often used in courts to ensure high quality transcripts are kept.

Due to their high levels of accuracy and speed they are also very useful for the Deaf community; STTR’s can attach their equipment to large screens to provide real-time text of presenters, speakers etc. They also give extra information such as [laughter] and [applause].
